ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಯಕಿ ಸರಿತಾನ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವ ನಾಯಕ ಶ್ರೀನಾಥ್ ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಸಂಪಾದಕನಾದ ಅಶೋಕ್ ಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯ ಮಾಡಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕಥೆಗಳು ಬರವಣಿಗೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ನಾಯಕಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕಾಲಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹೆಸರು ಗಳಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ.ಈ ನಡುವೆ ಆಕೆ ಅಶೋಕ್ ನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ.ಅಶೋಕ್ ಸಹ ಆತನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.ಆದರೆ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.ಕೊನೆಗೆ ನಾಯಕಿ ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯಗೆ ಶರಣಾಗುತ್ತಾಳೆ.ಆದರೆ ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮುನ್ನ ಒಂದು ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿರುತ್ತಾಳೆ.ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಓದಿದ ನಂತರ ಅಶೋಕ್ ಗೆ ಸತ್ಯ ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Mugila Mallige is a 1985 Indian Kannada language film written and directed by K. Balachander and produced by his own Kavithalaya Productions. Starring Saritha and Srinath in the lead roles, the film also featured Ramakrishna and Ashok in pivotal roles.
